A self professed wine lover of immense magnitude…
a slave to the hedonistic pursuit of amazing wines…
but never without humor and humility. It is her goal to
make sure wine is no more intimidating than grape juice.
It doesn't need to be an enjoyment for only the rich or savvy.
There is no need for pretention. She prides herself on
finding wines of great value and always with an effort to
supporting the smaller producer and those that produce
with sustainable agriculture. Schaffer has recieved diplomas,
certificates and attended seminars from the following
institutions:
Court of Master Sommeilers
Sommeilier Society of America
Certified Wine Educator
American Sommelier Association
French Culinary Institute
Diploma with Distinction from the Wine & Spirits Education Trust
Oregon Pinot Camp
Sommelier Summit by Franciscan Estates
"Wines with Altitude" in Mendoza, Argengtina by Catena Vineyards
Schaffer has designed and purchased for wine lists for the last thirteen years. She started with a list of 12 without knowing much and today has a list of 350 wines created with confidence and pride. She has the difficult job of tasting wines daily and traveling to wonderful wine regions to cultivate friendships and acquire boutique wines. At Napa & Co. she has evolved her love for wine into a teaching atmosphere by holding weekly wine classes for her staff and the public. Her style is light and fun, whether white or red the goal is to enjoy.
In addition, Schaffer shares her talent and knowledge by hosting private/corporate wine tastings, recommendations and consulting for wine cellars and appraisals.
If you can't find Mary look in the Wine Closet where we're sure she's enjoying swirling, sniffing and swilling a marvelous glass of wine with some visiting winemaker.
